Tips and Tricks to Applying Eyeshadow
Applying eyeshadow can be a daunting task, especially for people who are not too familiar with the product. With a plethora of colors and hues along with an indistinguishable number of palettes, creams, and powders, it can be quite a challenging task to figure out which eyeshadow style to utilize and which best enhances your look. Here is an in-depth list of a few tips and tricks to help you with the application of eyeshadows.
1. Keep it simple
You don’t have to buy dozens of different types of brushes for your eyeshadow game to be on point. When in doubt, you can just keep it simple and apply the eyeshadow using your finger. This technique works exceptionally well if you use cream shadows rather than powders. The cream shadows usually come in pot-like containers or the form of a pencil. It is very important to remember that both the area used for applying as well as the area where the eyeshadow is to be applied, that is the finger and the eyelids, both have to be clean to prevent dust or other impurities to ruin your look.
2. Use a foundation
You can use this trick if you don’t have your eyeshadow anywhere close to you. Use a foundation that is about one to two shades darker than your natural skin tone. Applying this as an eyeshadow can help you look to undergo a deeper contrast. It is advisable to use a suitable applicator which ensures that the foundation is applied evenly on the eyelids and eyelashes.
3. Use metallic eyeshadow
Applying eyeshadow to certain points of your eyelids will enhance and highlight those parts of your face. You can use a metallic eyeshadow or its related hues as they will further highlight these points and add to your overall look. It is best when applied on top of another base shadow, to give it a slight contrast. It is also advisable to use metallic shadow powders instead of creams as they can easily smear and ruin the look.
4. Winged shadow
One of the most common eyeshadow styles is the winged shadow, a line from the outer corner of the eyelids. Not everyone is gifted enough to accomplish this style by themselves, however, you can use certain props to help you with creating this look at home. Just use a piece of tape set diagonally from the outer corner of the eye and utilize a thin brush to apply the eyeshadow and complete the look.
5. Use appropriate brushes
While this may seem like a no-brainer, it’s an important piece of advice. It may not be good to clutter up your entire eyeshadow kit with brushes you will never use, do make sure to have the basic type of brushes ready for use. For example, while you are applying eyeshadow to the lower eyelid, use a smaller brush that is capable of reaching and evenly applying the shadow to the area. You don’t need a hundred brushes to apply eyeshadows.
