Common Mistakes to Avoid When Applying Eyeliner
Eyeliner is an essential part of defining the eyes with makeup. No makeup is complete without the use of eyeliner, but that doesn’t mean it’s the easiest tool to master. Eyeliner is used to define the shape and color of your eyes. For beginners applying eyeliner could be a tedious task. Here are a few tips on how to avoid some of the common mistakes while applying eyeliner.
1. Do not line your entire eye
It is always overwhelming for a beginner to line their entire eye. By lining your entire eye, the eye becomes smaller and looks clumsy. A complete eyeliner look can be done only for heavy makeup like smokey eyes. If you choose to apply eyeliner every day, it is advisable to tight line your upper lash line completely and line the lower lash line with a lighter pencil just halfway. Lining your lower lash line can get the makeup messy by midday as it can smudge easily due to the waterline.
2. Do not stretch your eyelid
By stretching your eyelid, the application of the eyeliner will give you a messy and uneven line. It also affects your skin texture by giving away wrinkles at a younger age. You can close your eyes and calmly draw a line with a liquid or a pen eyeliner.
3. Do not apply eyeliner only on your bottom line
Applying eyeliner just on your bottom line makes you look older. It gives away an unbalanced look by dragging your eyes down. Tight line the upper lash line with a darker color and you can use a lighter color of brown or nude on the lower lash line to complete the look and this way your eyes will look fuller too.
4. Do not use a blunt eyeliner pencil
To get those impressive strokes and neat finished look, it is important to keep eyeliner pencils sharp before you start lining. Using a blunt pencil will give you a messier look and it is really hard to draw precise lines with them. Also, make sure you discard the eyeliner after a while.
5. Set your eyeliner with eyeshadow powder
To avoid smudging your eye makeup it is advisable to set your eyeliner with a matching eyeshadow powder. This will help keep your eyeliner intact and smudge-free.
6. Do not use liquid eyeliner on your lower lash line
Using a liquid eyeliner on the lower lash line is not a good choice to make. Firstly it gets very heavy and cannot be smudged into a lighter color. It is advisable to create a dramatic look with a pencil eyeliner instead, which can be smudged to get a lighter look. Also, applying liquid eyeliner on the lower lash line will not last long as your eyes might get teary and this will end up in a messier look.
7. Do not close your eye while creating a winged look
Closing your eyes while creating a winged look will get messier as it is difficult to find where the creases lie on your eyelids. Keeping your eyes open will give you clear and even lines.
